Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms and meanings of human onomatopoeia in the Webtoon Study Group Season 1 by Shin Hyung Wook, as well as its implications for Indonesian Language learning in Senior High School (SMA). This study employs a descriptive qualitative method. The data source is the Webtoon Study Group Season 1 by Shin Hyung Wook, and the research data consist of onomatopoeic words. Data were collected using the observation and note-taking technique, and subsequently analyzed using the referential identity method based on Thomas and Clara’s (2004) theory of onomatopoeia forms and Simpson’s (2004) theory of onomatopoeia meaning. The results show that the most dominant form of onomatopoeia is sounds made by humans, totaling 35 data points. Based on meaning, 11 data points (31.43%) possess lexical meaning (found in the KBBI), while 24 data points (68.57%) carry non-lexical meaning, where the interpretation depends heavily on the context. The findings of this study are implicated in Indonesian Language learning for Grade XI Phase F, specifically within the short story writing module. Onomatopoeia can be utilized as a linguistic element to depict sounds, movements, atmospheres, and characters' expressions, thereby making the story more vivid and communicative.
