THE USE OF CYNICISM IN VALENTINUS RESA'S SPEECH IN THE NEWS ON THE METRO TV YOUTUBE CHANNEL

Abstract

Valentinus Resa's speech while presenting news on Metro TV's YouTube channel is the focal point of this study. The purpose of this study was motivated by the author's desire to determine the form and purpose of the use of cynical satire language contained in Valentinus Resa's speech. In the study, the author collected data using listening methods and note-taking techniques. Data analysis used extralingual equivalents. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that in 10 news videos uploaded on Metro TV's YouTube channel with Valentinus Resa as the news presenter, 43 cynical satire data were found. The use of cynicism arises because the speaker is a news presenter who is on duty broadcasting news to the wider public, making the satire uttered by Valentinus Resa not use harsh and harsh sentence structure, but can be clearly understood the intent of his criticism.
