GEN Z SLANG ABBREVIATIONS IN THE TIKTOK COMMENT SECTION OF THE @JENNIFER.COPPEN ACCOUNT

Abstract

The rise of social media has spurred the emergence of various language variations, one of which is slang, widely used by Generation Z in digital communication. The use of slang in TikTok comment sections is worth studying because it reflects both linguistic creativity and the evolving forms of language among teenagers. This study aims to describe the patterns of Generation Z’s slang usage in comments on the TikTok account @jennifer.coppen from January to February 2026, as well as its implications for Indonesian language learning in junior high school. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach. The data source consists of comments on the TikTok account @jennifer.coppen, while the research data comprises words, phrases, and sentences containing Generation Z slang. Data collection was conducted using the read-and-record technique. The data were analyzed using the distribution method with the Direct Element Division (BUL) technique and presented informally. The results show that complex word forms dominate slang usage, accounting for 40 data points (72.22%), while single words account for 14 data points (27.78%). Complex word forms include affixation, reduplication, abbreviations, clippings, and acronyms, with acronyms being the most dominant form. These findings indicate a tendency among Generation Z to use concise and practical language in digital communication.
